Now I’m gonna share secret #2: It takes someone special: How to learn more different styles of playing piano than ever before
Now let me tell you a quick story…
I remember watching one of my “talented” friends play piano and I thought…”wow, she’s so talented – I’ll probably never reach THAT point of playing piano” and I didn’t know it at the time – but that thought really blocked me from moving forward into what God was calling me to.
One day, I was so down about the fact that I was sort of “stuck” and couldn’t get to where I wanted to be as far as playing piano. I googled different techniques, searched various piano tips and stumbled upon a very particular video. It was a video tutorial on how to play the song “light of the World” – I tried it – and realized that It’s actually really simple to play piano simply and beautifully at the same time – no matter what level of playing I had. I just had to MODEL exactly what they were playing and that’s it! It just took someone special to show me exactly how to do it.
You might be thinking, “I already learned a lot about the piano and it’s not working”. The truth is that you won’t connect with every teacher. Some people explain things in different ways that help different people. I think that’s the beauty of the body of Christ – there are many parts!
And… sometimes it takes someone special who YOU can connect with and understand exactly what to do. I’ve had piano explained to me in many different ways. Ways which didn’t make sense for a very long time. It took ONE person to show me how simple it really is – and I connected with that style of teaching right away and learned more than I did in a year worth of piano lessons! – It was insane!
It’s not just me, Eduard shared a crazy story with me where he was taught piano in so many instances in his life – but never understood anything about it.
